Does he have the 2 year conditional green card or the 10 year green card? I can help with things from the immigration end. You're right, when you sign the affidavit of support you are responsible for him, but it's not for giving him money. It only means that if he takes any public assistance ( welfare, benefits from the state, food stamps, etc) the government can hold you responsible for those and they can also garnish tax returns and wages. Though usually, to be honest, they rarely realize that it's happened and I haven't heard of many cases where the petitioner actually got stuck with a bill for the beneficiary.

If he only has the 2 year green card he has to file to remove conditions before it expires. That's going to be the tricky part for him if you are separated or divorced. He has to prove to USCIS that he entered the marriage in good faith, without a doubt, and that it broke down from normal causes. If you've already filed a report of fraud with USCIS evidencing ways that he used you for a greencard, it will be hard for him to prove that. In most cases they will not approve his 10 year green card and he'll be asked to leave the country voluntarily. If he does not go, he will go out of status when the two year card expires and be considered illegal. If at any point while out of status he's picked up by the police for another violation ( speeding, drunk driving, fighting, etc) He will go before an immigration judge and more than likely be deported.

But as I've said it really depends on where in the process you are. There is a 1-800 number to report fraud/suspicion of fraud to USCIS.

Let me know how/ if I can help or any questions that you have. You may possibly have some options in this.
