Dear All,

anyone made experiences with Algerian men on Holiday in Tunisia or on FB or Dating Sites in the WWW?

Usually Algerians say "they are different"...from the Tunisian Miboun...as they call the Tunisian men
"Miboun"....

Algerian men may consider them self superior to Tunisian once ..
For reasons going way back long in history ..
And I am too tired for a history class, the short version, Algerian men think Tunisian are not " true Arabs " and therefor less..
Sorry for the generalization on a complex subject,
But ouch they are made of very similar material
...

In my experience Tunisian's don't particularly like Algerians either.

One time a Tunisian asked where I was from: "Scotland" I replied.
"Ahhh so you're English" he said.
Me "No, I'm Scottish"
Him "Scottish/English - it's the same thing"
Me "Ahh so you must be Algerian then?!"
The look he gave me....omg.....
Him "No!!! I am Tunisian!!"
Me "Tunisian/Algerian - it's the same thing"

At first he was mega offended but he eventually realised the point I was trying to make.....thank god cause if looks could kill!

I was recently staying in a hotel in Tunisia, there were two Algerian men also staying in the hotel together, I would say they were in their early 40's, I am in my early 20's.
I was sitting alone in reception, having a drink & catching up with friends & family on facebook whilst waiting for my friends to get ready in our room (as we were going out for a late dinner & show).
The Algerians wouldn't leave me alone, kept asking me to join them for drinks which I politely declined, kept smiling at me, blowing me kisses etc.
I left the hotel bar to get in the lift to go to my room & hurry my friends up, before I knew it they had joined me in the lift.. feeling quite uncomfortable I kept my head down playing on my phone, debating whether to pretend I had forgotten something in reception/bar & to press to go back there. The walk from the lift to my room was quite far & the hotel was fairly empty.. I didn't like the thought of being completely on my own with them, I then realised they had pressed floor two & I was getting off on floor three.. Phew. As they got out of the lift the lift I breathed a sigh of relief & almost laughed at myself for being so dramatic! What did I think was gonna happen haha.
As I got off on my floor & started walking towards my room I heard footsteps behind me. The Algerians! They'd walked up the stairs to follow me! They kept saying 'beautiful girl we want to speak with you' So I stopped, turned around & simply said 'yes?' They asked me where I was from, to which I replied London, they then asked me if i was enjoying my holiday, which I said I was, I was then asked if I knew I was beautiful to which I responded that I had to go as I was going out could I actually help them with anything? I was then asked if they could join me in my room to 'practice the sex' & as this was said they both started putting their hands out as if to touch me! I jumped straight back, informed them both that hubby lives in Tunisia & would not be impressed, that I have two friends staying in my room with me, one of which is a male friend who would also be very unimpressed & I don't know what impression they had gotten off of me but it was wrong & to stay away from me or I would be going to reception saying I was feeling unsafe due to them!
They said sorry & made a very very quick exit, I don't really know what to make of this occurrence. Perhaps they had simply got the wrong vibe from me & thought I would want them to join me in my room? Although I really cannot see how, I didn't even give them as much as a smile, let alone encourage them, maybe they were just trying their luck & saw a girl who appeared to be on holiday alone which seemed like a good opportunity? I don't know. The thing that really concerned me is that I look very young for my age, I look no older than late teens. These two men were big men, much taller than me, both over weight & they were men. Plus there were two of them & only one of me. The point i'm getting at is, say I was a 18 year old girl holidaying alone, say I had been having a drink then was going up to my room to have an early night, say I didn't have friends or anyone I knew in that hotel or country & they had done the same thing, I'm quite sure the experience would have scared the life out of me & would they have disappeared so easily? Who knows.

Find it hard to believe that the reception staff had no idea of what was happening too. Bet they must have clocked these 2 trying to come onto you. Reminds me of a Trip Advisor review by a man who was protecting 2 young girls who were getting unwanted attention from animation team at Phenicia. He ended up complaining to reception about it and was fobbed off and the girls ridiculed for not wanting to join in the fun. Yeah fun right:eek:

It wouldn't have been obvious to anyone, I was ignoring them in the bar area & they were keeping their distance..but obviously watching & planning. Later that night I told hubby who knows security, reception etc in hotel & the men never looked at me again! I just worry for young girls who are new to the country & won't have anyone else there like I did...

Let me join this discussion about Algerians.
Throughout history Algeria was mostly part of Tunisia and sometimes part of Morocco. They never had an Arabic/Berber/other civilization to identify to. After the Turkish created Algeria in the 17th century and handed them over to the French in the 19th century and after their independence from France in 1962, they had a very ugly identity problem. They have no real civilization to identify to. They are a country since 300/400 years and always colonized. It's why they have a big fight between the Arabized and the berbers. Tunisia, on the other hand, has been continuously a state/country since more than 3000 years, so people there feel more stable and identify themselves to their long history as a nation. The Tunisian Flag is one of the oldest in the world (1831).
The berbers are the real people of North Africa (From Morocco to Libya). Till now all the North African countries speak a lot of Berberian words including Tunisia (of course + Arabic + French). By percentage of DNA, North Africans are 70% Berbers 20% Arabs and 10% Europeans (general numbers and differ by country).
In the last few years, the self identified fully berbers in Algeria started rejecting the Arabic language and converting back to Christianity. They consider Arabs as invaders the same as the French or the Spaniard.

Now why they call Tunisians Miboun (gays). Alegeria and Libya are very conservative countries, zero tourism, zero Jews, zero tolerance towards minorities and towards women, no legal prostitution, no alcohol (some exception in Algeria). In between lays Tunisia, a country full of hotels, casinos, night clubs, bars, naked tourists (their vision), Jews, legal prostitution, gays and the biggest of all sins 'women rights'. For them Tunisians are not men enough because they allow all this, so they are Moboun or Gays. For them Tunisia is a big whore house. On the other hand the first Touristic customers for Tunisia are Algerians and Libyans even before the Germans and French. They come specially to Tunisia for tourism, shopping, hospitals, prostitution and alcohol.
Still Algerians and Tunisians feel like they are very close and the same. They always stand with each other as nations and people. They don't disrespect each other officially or in public.

Algeria has no rat activity because they don't allow tourism, but they are the number one online/in Europe love rats. For the Miboun tag, you never know who and who ;)

Id be the first to agree ,if Tunisia really had "womens rights"...Its has a long long way to go .Compared to other countries it is quite liberal ,but the term "womens rights" dosnt really exist ..They have the freedom to go to school , work and drive if they are prepared to be stigmatised ,smoke and drink as well. They cannot be truly independant ,unless they eliminate all discrimination against women .

You are very pessimistic 'Simple'. The Tunisian laws protecting women are even stronger then any European country. There's no polygamy. Tunisian women are in better situation than all the Arab/Muslim countries. In practice it's a still a man civilization and of course needs more time to break the Ice. The men are still behaving like monkeys, thinking they are superior. I think they lost this status for sometime now. They just have to admit it :).
A lot of injustices towards women comes from a completely disfigured/erroneous/man made/extremist interpretation of the religion.
I'm for the full women rights to the western limits, if you know what I mean. Although, I don't wish alcohol or smoking for nobody :)

I came across some Algerians in a hotel we were based in, and from the little time I spoke with them, they were very persistent and annoying. One lady we met holidaying said that she watched the 2 particular fella's walking from Sun bed to sunbed, constantly being rejected.. She said that they looked desperate.. Maybe they just all think that European women are easy! Shame they are so narrow minded.

the tunisian woman (with the official rights she's got) is called in other arab countries "the princes of the arab world"...

Princes or queen of the arab world, because:
- tunisians can marry one wife at the time
- she's got much more rights than other arab women: she can ask for divorce, she can work if she wants, she can have an abortion, she can work whatever job she likes, she can evoluate in the male world.. called "code du statut personnel"...based on the ancient "code napoléon" thanks to Habib Bourguiba.

i didnt get that can you explain please. thanks in advance

I think that what she meant DT, was that the ladies from other Islamic countries consider the Tunisian to be princesses, because in comparison, they have many more rights than the ladies in other countries. There may be a long way to go, but what the Tunisian ladies have is enviable to those who have no rights at all.

Oh, but this is good for arabic men? I thought that they mostly like if their Muslim wife are as a "slave", and can't have rights, or opinions, or any wishes.....
And many Tunisian women wear blue jeans with long sleeve turtleneck, with or without headscarf. As far as I could see they are moderns. And I thougth that most of arabic man prefere if their wife wear the religious hijab or abaya...
