The stand not immediately clear who is behind the attack on the hotel in the tourist town of Grand-Bassam 40 kilometers east of the capital Abidjan. But radical Islamists have previously attacked hotels in West Africa, which is popular among foreigners.

A car bomb has exploded in the Turkish capital Ankara, killing 27 people and wounding another 75, the city governor's office has said.

The explosion happened in Guvenpark in the Kizilay district, a key transport hub and commercial area.

Several vehicles at the scene were reduced to burned-out wrecks, including at least one bus.

Last month, a bomb attack on a military convoy in Ankara killed 28 people and wounded dozens more.

The Hurriyet newspaper said the latest blast happened at about 18:40 (16:40 GMT) and the area was evacuated in case of a second attack. Many ambulances were at the scene, it added.

No group has yet claimed the attack. However, a security official told Reuters news agency that initial findings suggested it was the work of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) or an affiliated group.

Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu was reported to be convening an emergency security meeting.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who has been in Istanbul, was briefed on the attack by the interior minister, Hurriyet reported. Mr Erdogan was expected to return to Ankara later.

"According to initial reports, 27 of our citizens were killed in a blast caused by a bomb-laden car at Kizilay's Guvenpark," the governor's statement said.

It added that 23 people had died at the scene while four others died on their way to hospital.

The BBC's Mark Lowen in Istanbul says three attacks in the Turkish capital in less than six months show the multiple security threats that Turkey now faces.

The country that was the stable corner of the Middle East and the West's crucial ally in a volatile region is now at a dangerous moment, he adds.

Meanwhile, it has emerged that the US embassy in Ankara warned its citizens on 11 March of a "potential terrorist plot" in the city.

Last month's bombing was claimed by a Kurdish militant group, the Kurdistan Freedom Hawks (TAK). It said on its website that the attack was in retaliation for the policies of President Erdogan.

Turkey, however, blamed a Syrian national who was a member of another Kurdish group.

Last October, more than 100 people were killed in a double-suicide bombing at a Kurdish peace rally in Ankara.

Tunisian authorities on Monday announced the extension of the country's state of emergency, which was introduced in November after a terrorist bomb blast killed 12 presidential guards in Tunis.

The Muslim holy month of Ramadan, now in progress, has become a propitious period for bloody attacks, in Tunisia and elsewhere, making authorities particularly edgy.

One things for sure, I ain't going to any Muslim country where these attacks seem to be more common. Yes I know there are still risks in 1st world countries but at least our security and police Intel is better, I read recently that uk Intel has prevented 6 attacks from happening in uk this year..

Also re the comment about no police bring present the day of the beach shootings, I actually saw on sky news, a reporter say he had heard something was going to happen so was told to stay away! Effing disgusting, he was warned to stay away... It's In humane to have let this happen when he could have warned people.. Makes me sick!!!

It is horrible what happen in Nice!! Imigration authorities in ALL Europe And also US and Canada must tighten the possibilities for a visa to the West for the North Africans / African. It must be a powerful cleanup to get out everybody who does not have a valid visa. And the authorities have to be very strict on who drops in from North Africa / Africa. All radicalized Muslims should be exercised. Close the borders !!!!

    Really

The dead suspect came from the Tunisian town of Msaken and was not known to hold radical Islamist views, Tunisian security sources, have told Reuters.
The man, identified by French police sources as 31-year-old Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhlel, was not known by the Tunisian authorities.
Bouhlel was married with three children, they said. The sources did not say when he had last been resident in Tunisia, but said he last visited Msaken four years ago.

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/l...y-france-attack-promenade-des-anglais-vehicle

Lahouaiej Bouhlel was a 31-year-old French-Tunisian delivery driver
Bouhel was born in Tunisia in 1985 and had a French residency permit.
According to Tunisian security sources, Lahouaiej Bouhlel hailed from the Tunisian town of Msaken,
French television station BFM TV reported that he was a divorced father of three who had become depressed following the breakdown of his marriage.
Neighbours told the channel he was not particularly interested in religion, adding that he preferred girls and salsa.
They said that he had been unhappy since he divorce, and that he suffered from financial problems.
He was known to the police for assault with a weapon, domestic violence, threats and robbery but had no previous convictions for terrorism.

You don't know why they care about his roots? Wake up, Issah! There are lots of Tunisians, Moroccans etc trying to get to Western countries with the sole purpose of causing harm. They are rats using Western girls to get visas, they are using fake Syrian papers etc. I would say it is crucial that these peoples identities are revealed, as it will make it more difficult for people from those countries (and others) to get into the Western world.

I am not saying all people from these countries are potential terrorists, but extra vigilance and thorough background checks are needed to separate the good from the bad. You are wrong, this isn't an attack on Muslims, this is an attack on extremists, on terrorism, on people that will never accept our values.
