He’s in training for the National Guard. He said we shouldn’t be in contact, let alone in a relationship. That has pretty much been confirmed here.

He just sent me some messages from a guy’s IG – they’re in training together and I’ve received messages from that account a few other times. He also sent a quick video – no one else in the room was using a phone, so maybe the no phone rule is true, I don’t know.

Here’s the red flag – could someone please provide any info they believe would be helpful? Thank you!

I’m fully aware these guys have multiple phones, SIM cards, names, accounts, etc. What I’m not understanding is how he would benefit from me getting a SIM card for him, here, with an email and American phone number. I did see eSIM cards are a thing, but I’m still confused as to how he would be able to use the phone number? An eSIM is a permanent part of a phone, so… there’s a chance he has another phone and would be able to use it that way? Hypothetically speaking – emphasis on hypothetically because I’d like multiple views on this – even if he does want the SIM card so we’re able to talk, how would having that SIM protect him from anyone finding out he’s speaking with a foreigner?

This is the first major, major red flag from him. I’ve known him since August/September 2021. More than anything, I want to be able to go back to him with legit info, like I know what I’m talking about because clearly he’s the expert here.

The journal he’s keeping at training is written in English. I guess this is going to sound stupid, but why is that strange? I don’t want to underestimate anything but also don’t want to be paranoid about every detail.

Do you speak another language? If so, would you write your journal in that language or in your native language?

If its a personal journal he would write it in Arabic or maybe French. He's written it in English just for you

had to have a roaming package from my Canadian cell phone provider, I am not sure why if I was in Tunisia
why could I not have a temporary number while in Tunisia?
I think there is laws with the telecommunications companies internationally because I tried
to go to a lot of stores in Tunis and there are many stores there.
Tell him to buy his own, and if he has a cell phone than I am sure he can use
it on the weekends or when he is not working.

He might want an American sim/number to convince other victims that he's not just after a visa. After all if he has an American number than that shows he's spent time there and easily able to get a visa on his own. (Meaning he wants to marry then NOT need to for a visa)

And how exactly would it make it easier for you to talk? Using a SIM card for calls abroad is very expensive (at both ends). Why can't you continue to talk via the Internet?

It's a strange request? If I was you I would ask more about this, play the dumb blonde girl and ask him to explain it in detail. There are esim cards available in tunisia to.

Yes, it seems like a lot of effort but if the end result is a few thousand dollars or a visa gradually sqeezed out of you it's pretty good pay.

Of course the chances are he didn't even write it, it's probably something that gets passed around or sold between rats to use in their scams.

Is it handwritten or typed?
If it's typed do a Google search on some of the sentences, he could well have just downloaded it from a website.
If it's handwritten what's his writing like? is the level of English similar to typed messages he's sent you? And on par with his spoken English?
What is his handwriting like? Remember they're educated in Arabic so writting with our alphabet doesn't come easy to them. Have you ever tried to write in Arabic? Russian? Chinese? If you have you will know that (untill you've had years of practice) your handwriting will be quite childlike. So lovely flowing handwriting is a sure sign that its fake

With the exception of feeling numb right now, I’m still at the height of my feelings for him, so… thinking about that just causes more pain. I don’t want to see other victims either! No one needs to feel this way, not even him. I wouldn’t wish heartbreak on anyone. Thank you for laying it all out, though. I definitely needed to read it.

He is intelligent and that was something I initially loved about him. I felt like I was speaking with someone on my level, you know? There wasn’t much he didn’t understand.

He has talked about some of the guys from training so of course I’ve tried to see if I could find anything about them. I wonder if he’s learning more from them.

So… I don’t know how it would make it easier. He suggested it, had to go and then came back like an hour later on the same guy’s IG. He said to forget about the SIM and all that. He was either thinking about it and discussing it with other guys. He keeps saying we shouldn’t be talking because I’m a foreigner and that could create problems for him. I’m assuming he thinks having another number would prevent the National Guard from ever knowing about “us.”

I can’t say I’ve ever received poetry or a thesis, but that’s just wild. I still can’t wrap my head around spending THAT much time on schemes. How are they able to actually speak with victims, not just via text? Unless they avoid calls…
